The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

November 16, 2020 22:00 - 48 minutes - 33.1 MB

Instagram: @fearitselfhorror Maybe next time Peter will actually be in frame, but let's face it, it's not likely.  This week we took a stroll back to 2011, when times were better and cabins were still unsafe.  This Cabin in the Woods pays great homage to the genre of horror. Favourite monsters were definitely the Merman, the Unicorn, and Saw Head. The greatest thing about this take on parody, is that it still maintains its horror. It's well acted, takes itself seriously, and it's not zany...

Stories that Scared You as a Kid

October 24, 2020 21:00 - 51 minutes - 35.3 MB

Peter and Oliver talk about the impact that certain stories and campfire conversations had on their psyche.  Short stories are one of the lynchpins of horror with things like EC comics, short stories, telling scary stories, and the modern horror collections building up the bulk of the horror corpus.  Scary stories to tell in the dark, Trick r' Treat, and many other short stories are often now woven together in full narratives and in full movies. Enjoy the conversation and add your own in ...

What Makes a Horror Movie Great?

October 07, 2020 16:00 - 21 minutes - 14.6 MB

Maybe the hardest thing to put down on paper is a formula for good horror.  It's art after all, so there is no formula.  I thought I would try my hand at answering this question, but I think I just answered it for myself.  Have a fearless week,  Oliver

The Grudge (2004) aka. The One With Sarah Michelle Gellar

September 30, 2020 14:00 - 59 minutes - 41.1 MB

Oliver and Amanda talk about the spooky J-horror flick The Grudge (Juon) This is the most fun I've had watching a horror movie in awhile, and it continuous the stint of Japanese horror that I'm currently on.  The Grudge (Juon) is above and beyond one of the scariest movies created, particularly for its time.  I can't believe it holds up so well, and barring the slightly bad writing and flat characters, there is so much to love and fear about this one.

The Ring (2002)

September 23, 2020 16:00 - 57 minutes - 39.5 MB

Walking through and talking about the remake / adaptation of The Ring. This is such a great movie, and it has even more to say that I'd realized.  Enjoy the VHS throwback and watch this one again!

The Babadook (2014)

May 03, 2020 19:00 - 46 minutes - 32.1 MB

Peter and Oliver talk about the great and fabulous movie The Babadook.  It's special because it's Australian!

Quarantine (2008)

April 01, 2020 18:00 - 44 minutes - 30.8 MB

#quarantine #moviereview #2008 Hey Horror People! Hope you're doing well through the actual quarantine. We are both at home after work shut down, so now there is more time for Podcasting and photography (Yay!).  This one is a re-make of the much better Spanish REC, so if you have the time, I would say you should go and watch that one and skip this one. This movie has it's charms, but it just doesn't have the writing or timing that its source material possessed.  Stay well out there, and ...

The Invisible Man (2020)

March 16, 2020 13:00 - 1 hour - 57.2 MB

Peter and Oliver review and have a few laughs over the new and amazing Invisible Man with the incredible Elizabeth Moss.  Is it just me or do we have to review a bad movie soon? The recent past has been nothing but phenomenal horror flicks. I watched Hollow Man in preparation for this, so that was bad, but perhaps I'll have to get it together and do a sloppy one for the podcast next week.

The Ritual

February 25, 2020 03:00 - 18 minutes - 13 MB

Today I'm taking a walk through the scary Swedish woods and analyzing and summarizing the plot of The Ritual. I loved this film and thought it was a good watch that did a lot with its cast and resources. Check it out, and make sure you turn the lights off!

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

February 17, 2020 17:00 - 1 hour - 49.4 MB

I think I recorded the audio wrong for this - sigh - it should have been two separate tracks but alas, I am not good with the equipment yet. Oh well, suffering is part of horror. Enjoy the mild ear torture.  This was a fun episode. I really enjoyed this movie, and it really did a lot of things well. Horror is doing really well lately, they're just knocking it out of the park. Give the horror people more money! Let the weird ones create more! MORE! Forgive the intro, it is a work in progres...

The Wicker Man (1973)

February 10, 2020 15:00 - 50 minutes - 34.6 MB

What's up Horror People, Looking at The Wicker Man this week. A weird one for sure. But a good one.  Here's a brief overview in case you want don't need an hour of non-stop talking: Though the film has aged, the ideas established in Wickerman (1973) remain a staple of horror. Who couldn’t identify the ancient struggle between religious Christian piety, and the untethered Pagans? The mystery draws us in, and the end leaves us haunted, but it is the archetypal nature of the story that eleva...

Hush Horror Movie Review Episode 1
