Many people are afraid of ghosts, in fact; being afraid of spirits is one of the most common fears around. Many cultures have beliefs about the dead, and many claim to see or hear them which increases that fear. But if you add in disasters, isolated locations, with a bunch of pain and suffering - you now have all the ingredients for a great ghost story.
