Below is an excerpt of the sermon...

If you have your Bibles, open them please to the book of Matthew, the first of the Gospels. Matthew Chapter 27. And, of course, it’s one week before Easter. Some people have named this Palm Sunday because this is the day they commemorate Jesus riding on the back of the donkey into Jerusalem, where they laid down the palms and they cried out, “Hosann! Hosanna to the king!” And so, that’s where we are.

And let me just do a little numbers thing for just a second as you find that. So Jesus was crucified. He was in the grave three days and three nights. That’s what the Scripture says, right? Three days, three nights. Okay, so many religions teach that He was crucified on a Friday. If that was so, He had been the grave Friday, Friday night, Saturday, Saturday night, Sunday, Sunday night. He rose again on Monday, so you can’t get the three days and three nights in there if He was crucified on Friday. He was crucified on Thursday. That’s what I believe. He was in the grave part of Thursday and Thursday night, Friday and Friday night, Saturday, and Saturday night. Tomb is empty Sunday morning, and so if I refer to Thursday, it’s because many, many scholars believe that’s the day He was crucified on instead of Friday. I wouldn’t argue with you at all. When you get to Heaven, ask Him. Okay, but don’t say Pastor is messed up. Pastor missed it. It’s good Friday. No, it’s really good Thursday. If you add it up, you can’t get three days and three nights if He was crucified on Friday. You know, you just can’t get that. And so anyway, all right, you’re welcome. Alright, man, I’ve done messed everybody up. Oh, man.

And so, let’s notice, please. We’re going to look down in just one verse in Matthew 26 then we’re going look at Matthew Chapter 27. And again, thank you for being faithful in the house of God, and thank you for those that are listening online. Faithful. I know some of you are either ill or out of town. Some are quarantining. It’s just all sorts of things. And so, thank you that you love the Word of God. Thank you. That’s the best you can do. You’re listening to God’s Word today, and God will bless you for that.

And so here we are in Matthew 26:67: “Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands.” Then if you look down to Matthew 27:26 Matthew 27:26–44 “Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

27. Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. 28. And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29. And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 30. And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head. 31. And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. 32. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

33. And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, 34. They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. 35. And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. 36. And sitting down they watched him there; 37. And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38. Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

39. And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, 40. And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. 41. Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42. He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. 43. He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. 44. The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.”

And let’s pray. Let’s please make sure our cell phones are off to at this time. Heavenly father, we ask your blessings upon the reading of these very serious Scriptures. Help us never to discount or lightly esteem the great price that was paid for our salvation. The empty tomb we celebrate. But there must be a cross before there’s an empty tomb. I pray that You would fine tune us today and speak to our hearts, help our hearts to be tender and help us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

All the world religions have a founder. They talked much about their life and their words, little about their death. By the way, all world religions except Christianity, their founder is dead. Christianity speaks much of Jesus’ words, actions, much of his death, and much of his resurrection. The death of Christ saturates the Bible because it saturates the mind of Christ and the mind of God. The Bible says in Luke 19:10 “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Jesus in his earthly ministry many times reminded His disciples the Son of Man would be betrayed into the sinful hands of men and be crucified and three days later, rise from the dead.
