Linda’s CEO journey started after a traditional corporate career in finance and banking as a system engineer. Her first business venture was launched in 1982 to fill in a gap in the technical writing for the technology industry. Then, in 2002, she realized the internet was taking off and she saw many people were selling false business advice, so she decided to start SmartStart as a way of providing the foundational business, leadership skills and core competencies that would be required to succeed in business, whether an online or offline business. Her business model is created as a thank you to the 5 mentors who gave Linda amazing opportunities to grow in her career.

Linda and I talked about the five core competencies in building a business, key lessons that she learned about finance during her corporate career and how she applied this finance skill to her business and to teach her children, her reasons to build SmartStart philanthropy program and her advice for other entrepreneurs.

This episode is brought to you by my own CFO program, where I help CEOs and entrepreneurs how to grow their business through the power of finance and positive cash flow.
