II Chronicles 24 recounts the reign of King Joash of Judah, who began his rule at the age of seven under the guidance of the high priest Jehoiada. Inspired by Jehoiada's counsel, Joash undertook significant efforts to repair and restore the Temple in Jerusalem, which had fallen into disrepair. He initiated a collection of funds from the people to finance the restoration work, resulting in a successful and thorough renovation of the sacred structure. However, after Jehoiada's death, Joash's reign took a negative turn as he abandoned the worship of the Lord, leading to divine wrath and eventual downfall. The chapter concludes with the assassination of Joash by his own servants and his burial in the City of David, though not in the tombs of the kings, signifying his tarnished legacy.
