In II Chronicles 22, the focus shifts to the reign of Ahaziah, king of Judah. Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram and Athaliah, daughter of Ahab, becomes king at the age of 22 and rules for one year. Influenced by his mother Athaliah, Ahaziah follows the evil ways of the house of Ahab. His reign is marked by his alliance with Joram, the king of Israel, and their battle against Hazael, king of Aram, at Ramoth-Gilead. Ahaziah is wounded in the battle and retreats to Jezreel to recover. However, during a visit to Joram, he is caught up in Jehu’s revolt against the house of Ahab. Jehu kills both Joram and Ahaziah, leading to Athaliah's ruthless rise to power as she seeks to eliminate all royal heirs and secure the throne for herself. This chapter highlights the destructive influence of ungodly alliances and the consequences of following wicked counsel.
