In II Chronicles 16, the final years of King Asa's reign are highlighted. In the 36th year of his reign, Asa faces a threat from Baasha, the king of Israel, who fortifies Ramah to cut off trade routes. Asa responds by seeking an alliance with Ben-Hadad, the king of Aram, and uses treasures from the temple and his palace to secure this pact. Ben-Hadad attacks Israel, forcing Baasha to withdraw from Ramah. However, Asa's reliance on a foreign alliance rather than seeking God's help is criticized by Hanani the seer, who prophesies that Asa will face wars as a result. Asa reacts angrily, imprisoning Hanani and oppressing some of his people. The chapter concludes with Asa's failing health due to a severe foot disease. Despite his ailment, Asa does not seek the Lord's help but relies solely on physicians, and he eventually dies, ending his 41-year reign.
