The NBC Blue Network (later to become ABC), as a summer radio series presented "Streamlined Shakespeare" in 1937. It was a string of several Shakespeare plays adapted for radio. This track is the comedy "The Taming of the Shrew" (written between 1564-1616) The program is introduced by the iconic film star "John Barrymore" (in photo with daughter, Diana) who also plays Petruchio in the story. Katherina is played by Elaine Barrie and Lucentio by Hans Conried. Henry Hunter and Miles Mander are also performers in this play. This was a critically acclaimed production and given that it was recorded 83 years ago, it is in remarkably good condition.
