Joining us this week is Alex Stjernfeldt, a Gothenburg, Sweden-based multi-instrumentalist. You may know him from past and present musical projects: Grand Cadaver, Let Them Hang, The Moth Gatherer, and Novarupta. Our conversation begins by discussing the latter, an ambitious, concept-driven collaboration with Dutch artist Arjen Kunnen that calls on the talents of guest collaborators from all corners of Sweden’s heavy music underground. Elemental forces are central to the concept, guiding the music and accompanying visuals.

Alex walks us through the creation of both Novarupta albums: 2019’s Disillusioned Fire and 2020’s Marine Snow from musical construction to assembling an incredible cast of guest vocalists for its debut live performance. Marine Snow was very well received across the media spectrum: winning Metal Album of the Year at Manifestgalan 2021 - Sweden’s Independent Music Awards. We hear a bit about the forthcoming Novarupta album, Carrion Movements, which will be released in December on Suicide Records and get an update on Grand Cadaver and Let Them Hang.

Check out the music video for "Trieste" which features Martin Persner (Magna Carta Cartel, ex Ghost). A Playlist companion for this episode featuring select works by Alex can be accessed HERE.
