On this Best of Heard Tell for Monday, 16 January, 2023 which is Martin Luther King Day in America, we review three conversations with three great guests on matters of race, culture, history, politics, and better ways to address and discuss the issues to make real progress not just when headlines focus on terrible events and bad news regarding race and equality issues, but all the time so that the next bad headline might be avoided.

First from March, 2022 Delegate Danielle Walker (WV-51) explains why things like the CROWN Act are important and how things like discrimination affect jobs, opportunities, and identity. We discuss the history of minorities in West Virginia and greater Appalachia and the importance of getting all of history told for all of us. Del. Walker also directly addresses the contention of society needing to be "colorblind" both as an elected official and in a very personal way. Also, we end on some good news as a bill that is very near and dear to Del Walker's heart brought overwhelming support from both sides of the House of Delegates, and the emotional signing into law something that will save lives and honor a legacy.

From May, 2022, in the aftermath of a racially motvated mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, guest Dennis Sanders returns to Heard Tell, and our writer and pastor friend joins us in a tough, grown folks talk about race, culture, politics, and policy in light of the Buffalo massacre that saw the racially motivated killing of 10 people at a grocery story. Dennis talks about what we can and can't do to deal with hate, why we struggle with issues of race in America so much, and as a Minneapolis resident and pastor talks about what a community goes through during big news events both while the cameras are on, and after the news media moves on to the next story.

And from January 2023, our guest is Editor In Chief of The Atlanta Voice Donnell Suggs to discuss the importance of local, free, and diverse media, the history of black print media and its future in a digital age, and how Atlanta is a great microcosm of many of the issues and narratives we are discussing nationally
