In this episode, Otako shares his personal experience of why it takes effort to integrate into a new culture, based on a true story. Otako moved to Germany from Uganda in 2019, but in order to enjoy Germany he has to be culturally open-minded, he has to integrate into the new German culture and system. As a migrant, you have to work really hard to integrate, but what cultures can you integrate into or not?
Integration and Integration Policies in Germany
Germany's population has been shaped through immigration; more than 20 percent of the country's residents have a migration background. However, the promotion of the integration of immigrants was only specified as a governmental task in the Immigration Law in 2005. To this day, immigrants and their descendants do not have the same opportunities to participate in central social areas.
