Sports sampling is preferred to specialization, reducing the likelihood of injury and burnout that can occur when your child focuses on a single sport.
Ensure your child gets adequate rest from sports participation and conditioning. Give them a month off from their sport each year, plus one rest day per month. It may be tough to get your kid to take these needed breaks, because athletics can become part of their identity. Push for them to lay off the organized practices and games during rest periods.
