Hair loss affects well over 100 million people. For men, it’s more socially acceptable to lose your hair, although I’m sure most men would like to have hair. For women, not so much. Women want a full head of hair. When we start seeing it shed, thin, and lose its volume, and see our hairline moving, it’s terrifying. And, not just because of how it looks and feels, but because we know that something deeper is causing it. And, that loss of control is heart-wrenching. We literally put the future of our hair in the hands of doctors, that may not have a clue as to how to reverse it.

My own hair loss started after giving birth to my 5 kids over two decades ago. After having a partial thyroidectomy 23 years ago, I experienced even more hair loss. A stressful divorce and perimenopause 5 years ago only exacerbated it. My hair loss journey is not unique. There are so many women going through similar devastation watching their hair fall out.

I started to research red light therapy devices for my own hair loss, knowing that time was of the essence. I was totally confused about what to look for and ended up watching a ton of videos, researching how red light therapy worked on hair follicles and looking at the devices the top hair growth doctors offered to their clients on their websites.

My guest today is Dr. Michael Rabin, MD, MBA, an entrepreneur and innovator in the hair restoration industry. He is the founder of LaserCap Company and the inventor of the LaserCap, the original laser therapy cap, FDA cleared for hair regrowth in men and women. LaserCap uses a treatment known as low-level light therapy in which skin is exposed to low amounts of light that will penetrate through the scalp's surface and stimulate the hair follicle beneath.

Dr. Rabin received both his MD and MBA from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.

Dr. Rabin walks us through the many nuances of red light therapy and hair growth, including how it works, how often to use it, what’s important to look for when purchasing an at-home device and how red light therapy caps are best used as part of a stacked hair growth protocol, which may include topicals and supplementation.

We talk about building a healthy lifestyle to support red light therapy use, including eating a nutrient-dense diet with optimal amounts of animal-based proteins, working on managing one’s stress, getting restorative sleep, and exercising.
