Everyone is familiar with artificial sweeteners.  I now call these noncaloric artificial sweeteners, or NAS.  Most people have used these in an effort to cut down on calories as a part of weight loss or to prevent weight gain.  By now, most of you know this does not work. Many studies have shown the same thing.  This simply does not make any sense.  If you take in fewer calories, it seems you must lose weight.

What's going on here.

I am going to review a scientific article, Artificial sweeteners induce glucose intolerance by altering the gut microbiota, Jotham Suez, Tal Korem, et al.,Nature 514, 181-186(2014)  This can also be seen as a YouTube video by the author.  Just search Jotham Suez.  I will review the article, give my commentary, and discuss my conclusions.

After reading this article, I quit drinking Diet Dr. Pepper.  This was not easy as I had a mid addiction.  Although this sounds crazy, I came to the conclusion that sucrose sweetened pop was better to maintain weight than diet pop.  This sounds crazy.  If you listen to the podcast, you may not think it's crazy at all.

As you know by now, I make these podcasts to try to get you to buy my book, Diet and Health, on amazon or at my website, kellygregg.com.  This podcast is essentially just a chapter in this book.  I found the article very interesting it answered some of my questions on the gut biome, and bought up many more.

If you want to read instead of listen, this is also a small Kindle book (30 minute read) which you can buy (from me), or just buy the big book in paperback.
