We've been all told to eat lots of colorful fruits and vegetables to get plenty of antioxidants. But how do they help us and, more to the point, why do we need them so badly? I look into this in this week's episode.

Before I get into the antioxidants, I want to tell you about a couple of studies I ran across discussing the cardiovascular effects of all those energy drinks we're consuming now. Nutrition facts.org has a short video that sums it up quite nicely. Another NIH study looked at the cardiovascular effects of energy drinks and found that there is blood flow resistance going to the brain with the strength compared to placebo. The reduction in blood flow to the brain was worse in women than men. Another study from the European Journal of nutrition also showed reduction in blood flow to the brain with energy drinks, both in men and women.
