If you ever wondered if the saying “your gifts will make a way for you” is true, Brownie Blendz is living proof that it is. As a staple in the bay area barbershop scene, Brownie has successfully leveraged his skill set, passion for his craft, and unmatched vision to become one of the most influential barbers in the country. The now infamous Blendz has consistently worked on his craft which took him from cutting friends and family on the front porch, to fading international superstars on the set of HBOs’ “The Shop”.
His celebrity clientele is a who’s who of NFL and NBA champions and All-stars. Alongside business partner Joseph Cannon, they have provided opportunities for many barbers and hairstylists across the bay area through their “KJ’s Barbershop” franchise/chain model. This episode is special because we officially brought the podcast to the barbershop and perhaps more importantly learned about the non-sexy side of being a celebrity barber. Brownie discussed why talent alone isn’t enough, the people skills required to get in the door, and the leadership, restraint and professionalism that it takes to remain in the room.
