About Harvey's guest:

Today’s guest, Nicholas Meyer, is a multi-award winning author, screenwriter and director, whose remarkable body of work over the past five decades includes some of the most popular and beloved books and movies of our time.

He’s written 8 novels including the immensely popular Sherlock Holmes pastiche, “The 7% Solution”, which spent 40 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list, and for which he also wrote the screenplay, earning him an Academy Award nomination.  His other Sherlock Holmes novels include “The West End Horror”, “The Canary Trainer”, “The Adventure of the Peculiar Protocols”,    and “The Return of the Pharoah”.

But he’s perhaps best known for his connection to the Star Trek movie franchise.  He co-wrote the screenplay and directed “Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan”.  He co-wrote the screenplay for “Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home”.  And he co-wrote the screenplay and directed “Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country”.

He also wrote and directed “Time After Time” and “Company Business”.  He directed “Volunteers”, starring Tom Hanks and John Candy, “The Deceivers”, starring Pierce Brosnan, and “Vendetta” starring Christopher Walken.  In 1983 he directed the highly acclaimed TV movie “The Day After”, starring Jason Robards, JoBeth Williams and Steve Guttenberg, which dealt with the effects of a devastating nuclear holocaust, and was nominated for 12 Emmy awards – winning two -  and remains the single most-watched TV movie ever made, with a viewership of 100 million people in one night.

His screenplays include “Sommersby”, “The Informant”, “Elegy”, and the brilliant 2-part miniseries, “Houdini” starring Adrien Brody, which is based on a fascinating book by our guest’s father, entitled, “Houdini: A Mind in Chains: A Psychoanalytic Portrait”.   Our guest is also the co-creator of the Netflix series “Medici”.

If that weren’t enough, he also contributed to the screenplays of 2 other classic movies, “Fatal Attraction” and “Prince of Egypt”.

In 2009 he published an insightful and highly compelling memoir entitled, “The View from the Bridge: Memories of Star Trek and a Life in Hollywood”.
