Tanim Awwal sat down for a Harmonic Heart interview on 5/9/2020 to discuss his musical journey. We discuss how South Asian and American cultures have influenced Tanim's artistry, differences between acoustic and electric guitar playing, benefits of taking vocal and guitar lessons, and more. Tanim opened and closed the conversation with performances of original songs. We hope you enjoy.

Tanim Awwal is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from South Brunswick, New Jersey. He is the son of immigrants from Bangladesh. His mother is a singer trained in a style of Bengali classical music. Tanim sang growing up but took a break in high school and focused on drumming in a band with friends. Upon moving to Washington, D.C. for work, he took up music in a concerted effort to avoid becoming a workaholic. He has since performed regularly at open mics in D.C. and continued to write his own songs. Tanim takes vocal and guitar lessons as an incentive to constantly improve his skills. Although he feels nervousness, like many musicians, about performing and sharing his work publicly, he has not let that stop him from continuously putting himself out there.
