Motherhood changes us. As the generation who were told we could do anything and be anything we want to be, accepting the changes that come with motherhood can be very difficult.

This podcast is a collection of stories of matrescence, motherhood, womanhood and change, told by our Mama Rising coaches and mothers around the globe. Through our stories and community, we hope that the wisdom of the rite of passage of matrescence spreads far and wide, and that we can begin to change the way we see, value and support ALL mothers everywhere. Because we really need it.

In this episode Amy takes a moment to reflect on ten years of coaching mothers, and both her personal journey to get to this point, and how she sees the focus on mothers changing. Just a few short months after becoming a mother 16 years ago, Amy started writing and researching the question: what happens to us? Why does it feel this way? How can we do it better? And since then, she's listened to thousands of hours of coaching and interviews, with both experts and mamas around the world. ...

April 10, 2024 21:00 - 39 minutes - 90.9 MB

Throughout a woman's life, she experiences so many metaphorsis and change - and until very recently, most of these have been hidden and unspoken. Like matrescence - and menopause. Why is that? Why is it that we, as a society, have kept so many of these huge transformations hidden? And what does that do to a woman as she experiences it? And imagine if you were experiencing not one, but TWO of them at the same time? That's what today's podcast episode is all about. CiCi shares her stor...

#259 | REDEFINING INTIMACY IN PARENTHOOD | WITH DANIELA STEVENS

March 26, 2024 19:00 - 36 minutes - 83.2 MB

We've spoken with a number of relationship and sex experts over the years on this podcast - and there's a reason for that. Babies can change so much. For both partners. How do we connect after so much has changed? How do we even know what we want anymore when our bodies feel so different and the time and space we had for our partner has evaporated? The truth is, intimacy and sexual connection can - and often does - take a back seat for the early years. But when you finally do have th...

#258 | HEALING OUR FAMILY STORIES THROUGH MOTHERHOOD | WITH NGOMBO CHANSA

March 19, 2024 17:28 - 36 minutes - 84.3 MB

The beautiful - and confronting - thing about matrescence is it often leads us deep into our own familial story, and how we were mothered. Sometimes, without even knowing it, it can be the portal into looking at our mothers, and our mothers' mother's experience of being a woman and a mother... which, without the proper support and understanding, can feel very overwhelming. But what if we were to see this has a chance to heal our red thread? What if the gift of matrescence included the gi...

#257 | THE SPIRITUAL ASSIGNMENT OF MATRESCENCE | WITH KELLY VAN ZANDT

March 13, 2024 01:00 - 31 minutes - 73.1 MB

What if we were to view the experience of Matrescence as a spiritual assignment? How would we feel if we knew that all we are going through is actually here to help us grow? Would that make this wild ride any different? Over the years, I have interviewed many different authors and experts about matrescence and motherhood - but rarely have I been so inspired to view this experience as a deeply spiritual one as when I spoke with Kelly Van Zandt. Kelly is the author behind "Powerful Postpar...

It can take years to process what we went through in pregnancy and early motherhood. Especially if we didn't understand it at the time, or had a safe space to share. As Rachael Rose shares this week, it's been seven years since she was incredibly ill with hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnancy... and she's still trying to process it. But seven years on, it's also why she now does the work that she does - creating Women's Circles and training others to do the same. Rac...

January 31, 2024 17:30 - 39 minutes - 89.3 MB

Welcome to another episode of "The Happy Mama Movement Podcast." As human beings, we seem to approach motherhood in a very unique (and strange) way.  If you look around at other species, and at nature itself, you see an acceptance of the cycles of death and destruction, and the raw and messy beauty of new life.  It’s bloody and it’s messy.  There’s rage and there’s pain.  And the systems and ecosystems around the process know that - and honour it.  That’s what Lucy Jones discovered ...

In this episode, Amy shares her recent experience of retreating to heal - and how uncomfortable that has been at times. 'Am I letting everyone down?' 'What if everything falls apart if I pull back?' MATRESCENCE MOMENTS | RETROSPECTIVE | EP.#68 | WITH ALEXANDRA DI CECCO | SEP 2018

September 11, 2023 22:30 - 12 minutes - 28.8 MB

In our current world, we have been undervaluing what it means to be a woman and a mother. But in many ancient traditions and teachings, the mother is celebrated and revered for her power to create and sustain life. In my search for a better understanding of who I was becoming, and why I struggled so much to value this current season of my life, Kundalini yoga has been one of those ancient teachings that has guided me to a new understanding. Alexandra Di Cecco has been a Kundalini yoga teac...

MATRESCENCE MOMENTS | RETROSPECTIVE | EP. #117 | WITH DAMIAN WATERS| NOV 2019

September 04, 2023 22:30 - 14 minutes - 32.1 MB

This is an exciting time. We’re having conversations about what it means to be a woman, a mother, an equal, all over the world. New barriers are being broken. It’s revolutionary. But as we change the conversation around motherhood, I am often asked ‘What about the dads?’ And my answer is usually - yes, there are big changes for men when they become Dads, but that’s not my passion. Someone else can pick that up and run with it. And I hope they do. Well, mamas… I’ve found him. Damian Waters...

MATRESCENCE MOMENTS | RETROSPECTIVE | EP. #82 | WITH SOPHIE MELVILLE | FEB 2019

August 30, 2023 22:30 - 14 minutes - 32.1 MB

Hello there my beautiful friends. It starts small - an affirmation card, a podcast, a meditation in a yoga class. Sometimes, it can be a green smoothie and a commitment to move your body. It doesn't really matter what the entry point is - because once you're on your way, you're on your way. There's no turning back. That's the process of self-discovery. Motherhood can be such a catalyst for this: a chance to look at yourself in a new light. You want to get healthy for your kids, or you wan...

MATRESCENCE MOMENTS | RETROSPECTIVE | EP. #162 | WITH OMARA EVERTZ | MAR 2021

August 28, 2023 22:30 - 16 minutes - 37.9 MB

Greetings, beautiful mamas. Something we all seem to forget is that as Mamas, we are leaders. You set the tone of your family, you lead them through challenges, you hold the vision of who they can be. That is a true leader. But in our current culture of Super-Women and Perfectionism, we often think leadership is an 'outside' thing - something we have to build outside of ourselves, a strength we have to find to keep on going no matter what. Omara Evertz is a coach, author and mama. ...

MATRESCENCE MOMENTS | RETROSPECTIVE | EP. #111 | WITH DR OSCAR SERRALLACH | OCT 2019

August 16, 2023 22:30 - 15 minutes - 36.3 MB

Welcome beautiful Mamas. Today, a look back at a special episode, conducted in November 2019, with the extraordinary, Dr Oscar Serrallach. Most mothers have experienced exhaustion, pain, forgetfulness, indecision, low energy levels, moodiness, or some form of baby brain. And it's no wonder: the process of growing a baby depletes a mother's body in substantial ways - on average, a mother's brain shrinks 5% during pregnancy, and the placenta saps her of essential nutrients that she needs to...

MATRESCENCE MOMENTS RETROSPECTIVE EP. #55 WITH VANESSA LAPOINTE MAY 2018

August 14, 2023 22:30 - 15 minutes - 34.7 MB

Welcome Mamas, to our next MATRESCENCE MOMENTS RETROSPECTIVE EPISODE. Dr Vanessa Lapointe has an interesting take on the purpose of parenting. Sure, having children is about expanding your family and experiencing unconditional love, but at the core of it, she believes that parenting is here to challenge us - to challenge us to grow, to look at our old belief patterns, and to push us to expand and grow. Looking back, it's obvious that's what parenting is all about. We have a false belief t...

MATRESCENCE MOMENTS | RETROSPECTIVE | EP. #74 | WITH DEBRA PONEMAN | Nov 2018

August 07, 2023 22:30 - 14 minutes - 32.1 MB

When I became a mother, there was a very real but at the time imperceptible 'split' within me: on one hand, there was the woman who had big dreams and goals and identified with her purpose in the world, and on the other hand, there was the newborn mother. The nurturer, the carer, the woman who wanted to be there with her child for every single milestone. And it has taken me more than a decade to understand: it is this split that has been the hardest part to reconcile. For years, I searched...

Because, as you'll hear in this fascinating conversation with author Ruby Warrington, as women, we are all facing the same questions and assumptions of who we should be and how we should live.
