Next Episode: 28 Days!

“You are born alone, and you will die alone.”This week we investigate aloneness.

Aloneness is different from loneliness.

In the early ’90s, while backpacking across Europe, I was reading Stephen Batchelor’s Alone with Others, an existential approach to Buddhism.

In it, the following ideas are explored:”I was alone at birth; I must die alone; and, in a sense, I amalways alone, for the gulf separating me from others cannever satisfactorily be bridged.”

It's either a frightening or comforting thought. Maybe both.

Recently, though, I've come to a different realization.

While we are born alone, it is with and IN spirit.

When we die, it is the spirit that leaves our bodies.

Thus, we're not born alone entirely. Nor do we die alone.

Arguably, our spirit is with us. Or, it IS us.

Enjoy the show!
