Break 1: GCPS

STORY 1: Murder-Suicide At Snellville Apartment Complex Leaves 3 Dead And 1 Hospitalized

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a shooting at a Snellville-area apartment complex in Gwinnett left three people dead and a woman hospitalized. Police responded to a domestic disturbance at View at Jacks Creek apartment complex, where a man shot another man and two women before shooting himself. Both men were found dead at the scene, and one of the injured women succumbed to her injuries. The shooter and the surviving female were believed to be in a relationship. The police are investigating the motive, and anyone with information is urged to contact GCPD detectives or Crime Stoppers.

STORY 2: Bill Expanding Naloxone Presence In Schools Pending in Georgia Senate

Georgia State Senator Clint Dixon has introduced Senate Bill 395, aimed at allowing teachers, administrators, students, and visitors in the state to carry overdose-reversing drugs like naloxone on school campuses. The proposed legislation follows a series of opioid overdoses at a Gwinnett high school. The bill expands the group of people authorized to carry such drugs, making them more accessible on school grounds. While the bill doesn't mandate carrying the drug, it encourages accessibility to save lives. In the event of administration, schools would be required to notify parents or guardians about the incident. The bill aims to address the opioid epidemic's impact on schools.

STORY 3: Bill Strengthening Penalties for Swatting Hoaxes Filed In Georgia Senate

Georgia State Senator Clint Dixon has introduced Senate Bill 421 to increase penalties for swatting hoaxes. Swatting involves making false emergency claims, triggering police SWAT teams to respond. The bill proposes making the first swatting call to a residence a felony with a one-year prison term. Currently, it is a misdemeanor. Second offenses, regardless of the target, would be felonies with penalties ranging from one to 10 years in prison. Third offenses would carry a sentence of 10 to 15 years. The bill aims to address the dangerous nature of swatting and its potential to harm unsuspecting residents.

Break 2: TOM WAGES – INGLES 4

STORY 4: Study links alcohol and obesity to high bowel cancer deaths

The number of bowel cancer deaths among young people in the UK is on the rise, with factors such as obesity, alcohol, and lack of exercise contributing to the increase. Deaths of people aged 25 to 49 from the disease rose by 39% in women and 26% in men compared to 2018. Similar increases are expected in EU countries, especially Germany, Spain, Italy, and Poland. While bowel cancer is rising among young people, overall death rates from the disease are expected to fall in the UK and the EU, attributed to improved diagnosis and treatment.

STORY 5: Cops mistake marathon runner with fridge on his back for thief

A man training for the London Marathon by running with a fridge on his back was stopped by police, who initially suspected he had stolen it. Daniel Fairbrother, 34, was jogging with the 25kg fridge, named Tallulah, when a police car in Stevenage, Herts, pulled him over. The officers, after inquiring about the fridge, learned that Daniel was running the marathon for Diabetes UK and aiming to break the world record for running a marathon while carrying a household appliance. The current record stands at four hours and 52 minutes. Daniel hopes to raise £10,000 for Diabetes UK.
