Gwinnett Schools and Georgia State Partner to Lessen Teacher Shortage

Gwinnett County Public Schools and Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development have joined forces to tackle the ongoing teacher shortage in Georgia. Their collaboration has resulted in the Pathways to Teacher Credentialing Project, a program designed to equip provisionally licensed teachers and paraprofessionals holding bachelor's degrees with the skills and qualifications to become certified teachers.

In addition to providing a pathway to certification, the program also offers existing licensed and certified classroom teachers the opportunity to earn a master's degree in education. This initiative aims to enhance their professional skills and facilitate career advancement. Participants who complete the program are expected to commit to teaching within the district for a specified number of years, contributing to workforce stability.

The project is made possible through funding from several sources, including Georgia State, GCPS, federal and state-level TEACH Grants, and The Goizueta Foundation. By investing in the development and retention of educators, the partnership hopes to strengthen Georgia's teacher workforce and ensure students receive quality education from well-prepared professionals.
