Jack Salzwedel is chairman, chief executive officer and president of American Family Insurance, headquartered in Madison, Wis.

A native of DeForest, Wis., Jack began his career with American Family in 1983 as a claim adjuster. In 1985, he followed in the footsteps of his father, Tom, and became an agent for the company. Jack then took sales and product line leadership roles at AmFam, leading up to his election as chairman and chief executive officer in November 2011.

In his current role, Jack oversees the American Family enterprise of companies, which includes American Family and subsidiaries, Homesite and The General. He serves on boards for the Property and Casualty Insurers Association of America, the Insurance Information Institute, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and United Way of Dane County.

Jack is co-chairman of the board at the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, and is a member of the Board of Regents at his alma mater, Wartburg College, in Waverly, Iowa. Jack and his wife, Sarah, have also established the Slife Institute for Social Work Consultation, Research and Training at Wartburg.
