As it was coming up to another birthday, I thought it would be a good idea to do a mix of some of the tunes that have shaped my life. Give it a listen and see what the songs do for you….
Blue Zone - Big Thing [By far one of Lisa’s Stansfield’s best tracks. It used to get played at loads of parties in Manchester in 1988]
Sade - Sweetest Taboo [Oh my goodness, I love this track. When I was leaving Nigeria in 1986 to come back to Manchester, this song had just come out and at my leaving party; this got played about 10 times!]
Amp Fiddler - I Believe In You [Everyone knows my feelings about Amp!]
Young & Company - I Like (What You're Doing To Me) [This song is very special to me as Qool DJ Marv played this at my wedding and it is coming up to my 10 year wedding anniversary]
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell [This is one of the first records my parents bought for me. I just love her voice and the syndrum noises]
Luther Vandross - She's A Super Lady [I love Luther. Quality vocals. I remember playing this one once and a very respected DJ came up to me and patted me on the back for actually playing a Luther Vandross tune out that wasn’t ‘Never Too Much’. Plus as everyone knows, I LOVE slap bass!]
Don Blackman - Never Miss A Thing [comes from a great album called Don Blackman and it’s never out of my record bag. Slap bass is a bonus on this tune too]
Cameo – Candy [Classic tune from 1986. Wish I could get the dance moves that everyone does when it comes on!]
Nuyorican Soul - I Am The Black Gold of the Sun [Very special tune this one. I love the version that Minnie Ripperton does but this one reminds me of the Electric Chair club night (RIP) in particular]
Earth, Wind & Fire - In The Stone [Every EWF tune makes me happy but this one in particular puts a smile on my face. Love the way it starts, the middle and everything!]
Van Hunt - Out Of The Sky [By far my favourite Van Hunt tune. I have others by him but when I heard my friend David McInerney play it out, I had to get it!]
D’Angelo and the Vanguard - Betray My Heart [Love D’Angelo. This new album has taken me a while to get into but it is a grower nonetheless!]
Elektrons ft Pete Simpson – Joy [Pete Simpson’s voice is angelic! I feel this tune is very deep and spiritual and means a lot to me. Plus, it was produced by the Unabombers]
