To celebrate Christmas Week, we’ll be providing our listeners presents throughout the week by posting some of our favorite episodes from 2019!

For
our third episode of the week we are republishing one of Nick’s favorite
interviews from 2019 with New York State Senator Liz Krueger, an outspoken
advocate for cannabis and the lead sponsor of the “Marijuana Regulation and
Taxation Act”

After it looked like 2019 would
finally be the year that New York would legalize adult use cannabis, the state
legislature was unable to find common ground on a number of issues and failed
to pass a bill that would satisfy the Democratic majority. Senator Krueger, who
previously appeared on The Green Rush back in 2018, joined Lewis and guest
host, Gretchen Gailey, to discuss what went wrong and what needs to happen in
2020 to get full legalization passed in the state.

Don’t sit back, lean forward and enjoy!

About New York State Senator Liz Krueger

First elected to the New York State Senate in a Special Election in February 2002, Liz Krueger is currently the Ranking Member of Senate Finance Committee. She is also a member of five other committees: Elections; Higher Education; Housing, Construction and Community Development; Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities; and Rules. For the past several years, Manhattan state senator Liz Krueger has proposed a marijuana tax and regulation bill modeled on the state liquor law that treats marijuana companies like beverage distributors. Senator Krueger’s conservative estimate is that legalization of cannabis could produce $500 million in new revenue for the state government, $2 billion in new economic activity, and $300 million in savings for the state’s criminal justice system.
