Green Left’s Suzanne James spoke to Professor Mark Beeson about the federal Coalition government’s surprise announcement of the AUKUS alliance, the new nuclear submarine agreement with the United States and Britain and in particular about its foreign, domestic, economic and environmental implications.

Beeson is Professor of International Politics at the University of Western Australia and founding editor of Critical Studies of the Asia Pacific. He is also Research Chair of the Australian Institute of International Affairs and an expert on international relations and foreign policy, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The interview was conducted via Zoom on September 20.
