#115 Preview IBJJF Euros 2020, JitzKing Miami, Recap F2W 135, AJP Queen of Mats

This week on the show Maine, Emil, and Josh Recap Fight to Win 135 in Sacramento CA, The AJP Queen of Mats Heavweights 2020, Maine and Josh Preview the 2020 IBJJF European Championships, Maine and Emil preview JitzKing Miami, and talk about the weeks pro BJJ news. 

In the news section of the show we talk about Kody Steel being promoted to black belt.  We talk about some new articles Maine, and the rest of the Grappling Rewind staff currently on the Grappling Rewind website, and on BJJ Fanatics Blog.  We talk about the re-launch of the GrapplingRewind.com, and the events list.  We also talk about the release of Keith Krikorians, and Ryan Halls new instructionals out.  Plus the announcement of the Polaris Openweight GP.

In the recap section of the show we kick it off with Fight to Win 135 in Sacramento, CA, Headlined by Victor Hugo Vs. Nick Rodriguez this match showed that Victor has one of the best closed guard games in No-Gi and that Rodriguez is becoming more systematic with his passing.  We talk about the Black Belt Fight of the Nights and Submission of the night and a controversial finishes in one of the black belt matches.  We recap the mens brown belt Middleweight title fight in the Gi, as well as the woman’s Brown belt Light weight title bout.  

We also recap the finals match for the AJP Queen of Mats 2020 for the heavyweights.  We talk about the new AJP rules and how they came into play early here on a double guard pull and come up, and how a nice De La X sweep won Gabrieli Pessanha the title of Queen of Mats. 

In the previews section of the show Maine and Josh go deep on the IBJJF 2020 European Championship brackets for the Black Belt Adult Men and Women.  We spent nearly an hour going through each divisions bracket making our picks and talking about matchups that we wanted to see in each division.  Some of the names we are most excited for are Mikey Musumeci back at light feather, Bruno Malfacine, coming back to the Euros for the first time since 2011, the craziness of the Roosterweight division, and Light Feather divisions.  Keenan Cornelius possibly facing Dom bell in his bracket, and a possible finals matchup with Adam Wardzinski, we talk about Mahamed Aly in the Ultra Heavy division, and if Tommy Langaker can repeat his performance from 2019 Euros. 

We preview the JitzKing 2020 Miami Card that’s features a 16 man 145 pound tournament with names such as ADCC vetran Ethan Crelinstein, JM Holland, Ricky Lule, and Andrew Tackett.  This event also has a teen under 160 tournament with Achilles Rocha, and a number of superfights including Richie “Boogeyman” Martinez vs. Enrico Cocco, and John Combs vs. Kody Steele.

In the Outro section of the show we talk a little about upcoming articles in the works, Emil is working on a Kasai Pro 7 article that will be released on the website, and both hosts are planning travel to Dallas to cover the event in 2 weeks.
