This section describes the background of the Proud Boys group and how their growth was impacted following a statement by President Trump during a debate.  As former Vice President Joe Biden’s victory became apparent, Proud Boys leaders directed their ire toward others in the Government. The group was involved with a couple key events in Washington D.C. ahead of January 6th. Additionally, they created an encrypted chat to help the group's leaders coordinate in advance of their efforts to storm the Capitol.
