Hi - Welcome to Got A Phing? In today's podcast, I talk about the last corporate position which was the Senior Director and Head of Governance at Standard Chartered Bank.
So, this was a very interesting role for me because I joined this business team right after a personal sabbatical. This business team that I joined was actually the team I supported in my Financial Crime Compliance role previously and they were my business partners at that time.
Again, I want to emphasise that it is so important to focus on networking and keeping in touch with people who understand your value and they would very gladly want to work with you. I got the offer to rejoin the bank to lead the risk management and business governance of a $1.5B portfolio.
It was exciting times especially for someone like me who has an accounting background and started in audit, sometimes it's difficult to envision yourself to move outside of the 2nd or 3rd line of defence just because it's not that natural to do so. I'm here to tell you that it's totally possible if you focus on the core skillset.
So, this is also a very challenging role for me as I had to step up from a regional role with multi-functional reach into a global role managing 43 markets.
