1996.  Augusta.  On the first day of The Masters, Greg Norman tied a course record with a 63.  Norman is playing at an extremely high level, and he takes that score into a commanding six shot lead into the final round.  Then, on that final day - the unthinkable happened.  We watched Norman not only lose that six shot lead, but he would go on to lose to Nick Faldo by five strokes.  An unbelievable eleven stroke swing over eighteen holes.  For any golfer, struggling is not unheard of. Golf is a merciless sport, claiming the best at their peak.  But….taking a lead like that and seeing it completely unravel in such a way made history.   Nick Faldo finished five strokes ahead of Norman, completing one of the most surprising comebacks in professional sports history.  Faldo responded simply: “I don’t know what to say”.  This story highlights the idea of fixed and growth mindset.
Fixed and Growth Mindset80% of parents believe in praise for their kids. Praise is not the issue. It's HOW we praise our kids. We want to create a growth mindset because the fixed mindset examples show failures lead to compounding pressure and compounding failures.
When you praise on talent and ability - it works for a while.  You believe you are talented.  You grow up believing you are this talented golfer.  Or this talented basketball player.  Where you are limited is when that talent struggles.  Because, praising on talent - you teach the talent will overcome a failure.  What happens when we struggle is...the three things that come from a fixed mindset in the real world:
When we fail we begin to believe "I'm a failure"
We lack a roadmap to get out of failure
We find ways to win - by lying and cheating.
