The thrashing of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats in two regional elections Baden-Wuerttemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate on Sunday augur uncertain times for post-Merkel Germany.
The chancellor abandons her post in September after 16 bitter sweet years in office.
Her Christian Democratic Union slumped by 3.7 points to 23.3% in the western state of Baden-Wuerttemberg compared with the last election in 2016.1
