Be sure to tune into our next segment of "BACK IN THE DAY” on Thursday November 30th at 8pm. Join us while we discuss the Macy's Department Store Fire on June 14th 1979, where the day before the fire, the buildings sprinkler system was being serviced and the contractor shut down several valves in order to perform the systems, maintenance. All but one valve was turned back on. The buildings system is a complicated one. This particular valve played a key role in this fire. The next day, Macy's employees discovered a fire on the 5th floor, where several attempts were made by Macy's employees to extinguish the fire before calling the run in. This is going to be another great episode with the legendary, FDNY Deputy Chief Jay Jonas as he covers the job with all the details. The chief has done extensive research on this particular fire and even wrote a training and safety newsletter about it.
