In this episode of Geek Cinema Society, Brett Stewart, Nicole Davis, David Luzader, and their guest, Peter Fisher, delve into 1985’s ‘The Goonies.‘ This classic became a staple of many childhoods throughout the 80s and 90s. It is often looked upon as one of the more lasting adventure films of its era. The film was also an early entry in the careers of several notable young actors, including Corey Feldman and Sean Astin. Many may remember the infectious Cyndi Lauper penned theme, ‘The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough.’ (This, of course, marking Geek Cinema Society’s second week in a row of stellar 1980s children’s films with appropriately awful theme music.)

One could argue, though, that ‘The Goonies’ is a nostalgic trip best taken by those who grew up with the film. In this episode, the panel digs into some differing viewpoints of the movie’s lasting appeal. Does Richard Donner’s tale of adventure, pirate treasure, and bandits hold up in a contemporary setting? Or have the Goonies fallen by the wayside over the years? Is Cyndi Lauper’s music still as glorious as it once was? Well, yes. Of course. Either way, always remember: Goonies never say die.
