Gathered Fragments

31 episodes - English - Latest episode: 12 months ago - ★★★★★ - 2 ratings

When Jesus told His disciples to gather up the fragments, He was telling them that all truth is essential. Why? Because “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” So regardless of the topic, our question on this podcast will never be ‘is it salvational’ but rather: ‘is it the truth’? Each fortnight, we'll unravel a challenging yet heart-changing theme from the Bible. It's our desire that this podcast will be challenging at times, but we pray that you’ll join us in our search for every fragment of truth, that nothing be lost.

22. Gideon's Army

December 03, 2021 21:00 - 1 hour - 94.6 MB

Poor, humble, and mighty. The story of Gideon teaches us the value of unreserved dedication and complete trust. How else could 300 men take out an army that were as “grasshoppers for multitude”? Indeed, there is more to learn from these two chapters of Judges than history alone. Although 32,000 soldiers responded to Gideon’s call, less than 1% remained. This minute army bears a striking parallel to the 11th-hour workers; those whom the Lord calls to finish the gospel work at the very end of...

Why did Samson work against his calling? And why is he mentioned in the faith chapter of Hebrews 11? Join us in one of our favourite episodes to date and gain a deeper picture of this story than you'd seen before.  www.gatheredfragments.com [email protected]

20. Which Death Did Christ Die?

October 15, 2021 07:00 - 40 minutes - 55.9 MB

In the Bible, the second death (permanent)  is contrasted with the first death (temporary) which Jesus describes as a sleep. From this sleep, the saved will awake to receive eternal life while the lost—who have rejected the gift of Christ’s life—will have to pay for their sins with their own lives, and die a second time. With this in mind, which death did Christ die? And what impact does the answer have on our atonement? www.gatheredfragments.com [email protected]

19. What is Hell?

September 10, 2021 06:00 - 49 minutes - 67.9 MB

And when does it commence? www.gatheredfragments.com [email protected]

15b. The 2300 Day Prophecy

May 14, 2021 05:00 - 52 minutes - 72.1 MB

Aside from finding out when the 2300 prophetic days commence and end, we take a close look at the 70 weeks that form the first portion of the prophecy. Towards the end, our attention shifts to why this prophecy is so important, and the impact that it had on the Christian world when it first came to light. www.gatheredfragments.com [email protected]

15a. The 2300 Day Prophecy

April 30, 2021 07:00 - 50 minutes - 69.2 MB

"Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Daniel 8:14. 2300 days. The longest time prophecy in all the Bible. Yet when does it begin? And what does it mean for the sanctuary to be cleansed? Before we can answer these questions, we must first understand what the sanctuary is, where it's located, and why it's significant. Further, we must comprehend the role of the high priest who officiates in the sanctuary service. All this and more is discussed in ...

14. The Investigative Judgment

April 16, 2021 06:00 - 56 minutes - 77.9 MB

Among the most solemn words spoken by Jesus Christ, is the promise: “Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Revelation 22:12. The notion that man will judged according to his works, whether they be good or bad, is a common theme throughout Scripture. Although this in no way teaches that we are saved by works, it does prove that faith without works is dead, and that true religion will always be reflected in words and actions. King...

13. Why Does God Permit Suffering?

March 14, 2021 08:00 - 54 minutes - 74.6 MB

It’s an age old question. How could a loving God allow so much poverty and injustice? Further, if God is all-knowing, then why did He create Lucifer, knowing full well what would be the result? www.gatheredfragments.com [email protected]

12. Who Hardened Pharaoh?

March 05, 2021 06:00 - 1 hour - 86.7 MB

Not long before the kingdom of Judah was taken into Babylonian captivity, the prophet Jeremiah was given a rather interesting task: to go into a potter’s house. There, Jeremiah saw a potter working with a piece of clay which was “marred”, or disfigured. And so we read that the potter “made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it”. Drawing from this illustration, the Lord declared to the prophet: “as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of...

11. The One True Elohim

February 19, 2021 04:00 - 49 minutes - 68 MB

Does the Bible teach a trinity of three co-eternal, co-equal divine beings? What does the word 'Elohim' mean?  With quotes from God the Father, the Old Testament prophets, the apostles, and Jesus Christ Himself, we are led to one harmonious conclusion--a deep and insightful answer to the question: Who is the God of the Bible?  www.gatheredfragments.com [email protected]

10. The Holy Spirit

February 04, 2021 22:00 - 52 minutes - 71.9 MB

From Genesis to Revelation, the Holy Spirit is present. Yet not once is it called: ‘God the Spirit’. While this term is vital to the doctrine of the trinity, it is without foundation in the Word of God. By contrast, the Bible describes the Spirit as proceeding forth from, and being possessed by, the Father and Son. Phrases such as “the Spirit of the Father” and “the Spirit of Jesus Christ” are innumerable. Yet many still claim that the Holy Spirit is a separate divine being, co-eternal and c...

9. The Divinity of Christ

January 22, 2021 05:00 - 52 minutes - 72.3 MB

Throughout the Old and New Testaments, the writers of the Bible harmonise perfectly in their description of the Messiah. Central to this common description is the attribute of divinity; inherent only to the Father and to His Anointed One. In some of these prophecies, Christ's relation to the Father is further underlined as being "the only begotten of the Father", whose origin is from the days of eternity.  Yet what makes the divinity of Christ so important? And how are we to reckon Christ's ...

8. The Human Nature of Christ

January 06, 2021 22:00 - 52 minutes - 72.4 MB

Did Jesus take on humanity, with all its liabilities? Did our Saviour assume the nature of man with the possibility of yielding to temptation? Doctrines such as original sin and the immaculate conception of Mary have led many to believe that Christ’s humanity was different to our own. Yet these teachings bear immense ramifications on the sinner’s ability to overcome, while calling into question Christ’s ability to succour, or empathise, with fallen mankind. In reality, the truth about the ...

7. Is Predestination Biblical?

December 23, 2020 09:00 - 52 minutes - 72.7 MB

It is the fifth day of creation. Tomorrow, God will form man out of the dust of the ground. In preparation for this final work, the Creator sits down to consider the names of every human being who will be born on Earth. Before His throne are two scrolls. On one, an angelic scribe writes down the names of those who will be saved. On the other, the names of the eternally lost. Your name appears before the Almighty Judge. Although you are yet many years away from uttering a single breath, God d...

6. The Wedding Feast

December 08, 2020 23:00 - 38 minutes - 52.8 MB

From Christ’s straight-forward yet profound parable of the wedding banquet comes the line: “many are called, but few are chosen”. Not just a story, this potent parable is also a prophecy. Its dual-application points to the end of Israel as God’s chosen nation, and the final judgment of the righteous and the wicked at the close of Earth’s history. It’s a simple story: “The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son”. The central character in this story i...

5. Jacob's Trouble

November 23, 2020 23:00 - 37 minutes - 52 MB

After spending upwards of twenty years working for his father-in-law Laban, Jacob commenced the return journey to his home in Canaan. Accompanied by his large family, as well as herds of animals and general possessions, Jacob approached the land of his father Isaac. Yet the journey, while voluntary, was not without apprehension. In fact, the Bible states that “Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed”. Knowing full well that his brother Esau purposed to kill him, Jacob sent waves of servants ...

4. What is 'The Church'?

November 12, 2020 05:00 - 51 minutes - 70.6 MB

God’s church began with Adam and comprises all consecrated men and women to the present day. However, the Christian church did not formally begin until after the death and resurrection of Christ when God’s people were gathered together on the day of Pentecost.  Therefore, Pentecost was a critical moment for the beginning of the church. Yet even then, the church could not begin its work in bringing the gospel to the world until they were empowered by the Holy Spirit. This is why Christ told ...

3. Baptism & the Born-Again Experience

October 26, 2020 21:00 - 44 minutes - 60.8 MB

With the rolling away of the burial stone on the morning of the resurrection, the Father and Son fulfilled their part in the covenant to save man. Yet what are the terms on behalf of the Christian who enters into a covenant with God?  In a private conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus twice proclaimed: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Christ paralleled this experience of being born-again with being “born of water and of the Spirit”; a prerequisite for entering in...

2. The Two Covenants

October 20, 2020 02:00 - 38 minutes - 52.9 MB

What is a covenant? Simply stated, a covenant is a contract. According to Webster’s dictionary, it is “a mutual agreement of two or more persons or parties, in writing and under seal, to do or to refrain from some act or thing”. Within the pages of the Bible, one will find numerous covenants, or contracts. Consider Genesis 3:15 for example. Although the term ‘covenant’ is not used, this verse is really the starting point in the revelation of God’s covenant. As highlighted in the previous ep...

1. The Plan of Redemption

October 20, 2020 01:00 - 32 minutes - 44.8 MB

Adam and Eve were perfect. They lived in a perfect environment, and they had the privilege of walking and talking with God. Yet with two wrong choices, the bliss of Eden unravelled. After Eve, Adam also ate the forbidden fruit. As a result, the pair were stripped from their garments of light and found to be naked. Human nature was now degraded. And imperfect man could no longer live in a perfect environment.  Today, our very existence—though marred by pain and struggle—bears testament to th...

Introduction: The Bread of Life

October 20, 2020 00:00 - 16 minutes - 23.2 MB

John 6:3-14 captures the extraordinary miracle wherein Christ fed a company of 5000 men (besides women and children) with one boy’s lunch of 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish. After multiplying this small yet wholesome meal to satisfy the hunger of a vast multitude, Christ told his disciples to “gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost”. Interestingly, the 12 disciples filled 12 baskets with bread that was left over.  The next day, the crowd followed Jesus to the other side ...
