This week we really enjoyed the discussion with our in studio guests, Caroline Winters and William McKinley. Caroline recently graduated from Mississippi State and is working for the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP), and William is the MDWFP Deer Program Coordinator for the whole state of Mississippi. Caroline recently killed a giant 190 inch typical, one that she and others had been watching and passing for at least three years.  The story of Caroline and her husband and father, finding sheds, watching and passing the deer is a great one and illustrates the point of “let ‘em grow.” William helps explain the several curiosities about the buck, including that he should have died from a previous brain abscess, and goes on to help us better understand what it takes to grow a deer of this caliber. We ask a lot of questions and learn a lot about doe management, buck fawn displacement and why this year it seems more giants are hitting the ground.  Did you know that the first biologists that went around telling clubs to shoot does had to have armed escorts? That one shocked us. Listen, Learn and Enjoy.
