The Game Jawns crew sits down at the virtual table with ADHD researcher and East Carolina University Associate Professor Dr. Brandon Schultz to discuss ADHD games. The discussion explores games for “cognitive training” and how that research recently led to a prescription-only game approved by the FDA for the treatment of ADHD. The group discusses the potential strengths and weaknesses of this development and an alternative approach to ADHD games that Dr. Schultz and his collaborator Dr. Steven W. Evans (Ohio University) have received grant funding to research. Their game, ATHEMOS, has been in production for two years at the Game Research and Design Lab (GRID Lab) at Ohio University, engaging many developers, including our own Mitch Cook.
SPECIAL PROGRAMMING NOTE: ATHEMOS was supported, in whole or in part, by the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education, through grant R324A180219 to East Carolina University and Ohio University. Any opinions expressed are those of Dr. Schultz and do not represent the views of the Institute or the U.S. Department of Education, Dr. Evans, or the development team at the GRID Lab.
