The Future of Time with Dr James Beacham.

What is time?

**There are some audio issues in this podcast.  Especially at 1:50 - 1:55 seconds.  James's audio is great, but unfortunately, some of Mike's is a little distorted.  We're very sorry for this tech glitch but hope you can still enjoy this fascinating interview.  You can listen to the edited YouTube version glitch free at the Futurists World channel

Particle physicist, CERN investigator, and popular futurist, Dr James Beacham is a researcher on the Atlas Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Switzerland.

Originally from the midwest USA, James believes that every curious human is secretly a particle physicist and very much enjoys talking about physics with non-specialists… like us!

Mike first met James when he was in Melbourne, Australia to present at Pause Fest.  Then in a lucky turn of events, Mike’s travel plans collided with James again in his home in Geneva.

Mike said that “visiting James at CERN was like a childhood dream come true.  I’d heard of this vast mega lab growing up and imagined the lair of some Jame Bond villain.  And you know what, it totally exceeded these expectations – except for good, not evil.  What a tribute to the ambition of humankind CERN is.  To receive a behind-the-scenes tour with James was unbelievable and unforgettable.  A memory I will cherish forever.  The type of moonshot thinking that James and his colleagues at CERN bring to the world is more important now than ever.”

Needless to say, it was a great experience to get this extra time with James and to experience a guided tour of CERN.  Thanks James!

If you’re not familiar with The European Organization for Nuclear Research or CERN as it’s commonly known, and the LHC.  The LHC is a 27 kilometre supercooled, vacuum-sealed, ringed megastructure that runs underground, crossing the borders of Switzerland and France.  How cool is that! Well, according to James that stills way too small to test his really big ideas!

Deep in his underground lair, James is looking for new phenomena and explanations for some of the key unsolved mysteries of the universe.

He’s also a brilliant public speaker who, like Arthur C Clarke, challenges his audience to take a step past the limits of the possible, by going beyond them into the impossible.
