Si & Veronica are joined by Vee’s former roomie and bestie, Alma Ramos, for episode 115! For this episode we wanted to bring on a Black person’s voice to help us discuss some of the current issues. As a podcast that covers pop culture and music, with a lot of it deriving from Black artists/art, we thought it would be irresponsible of us not to discuss the racial climate in our country. In other news, we knew that Kylie Jenner wasn’t self-made but now Forbes is revealing that she is probably not even a billionaire! Nickelodeon is being praised for airing a 9 minute segment in honor of Black Lives Matter and George Floyd along with their Kids Declaration of Rights. We break down the intent of #BlackoutTuesday and #TheShowMustBePaused movements with Alma and what has been performative vs. what has been actionable on social media. The whole world has been a “Yikes!” moment lately, but Virgil Abloh’s $50 donation and Lea Michele’s racist past were a couple things that jumped out to Vee. Alma dove into her background with being in predominantly White spaces, the protests during her and Veronica’s time at Mizzou, and what she is doing now with the cause. Find her @alma.rosa48 to keep up to date with the resources she is sharing on IG! Hannah B. finally broke her silence to give a full apology for using the n-word and also told people to stop defending her. Bachelor Nation still has a long way to go in the social justice department, but it is a start. Join us for what is always a good time and leave us a rating and review for a shoutout!
