Join us on this week’s Sustainability Now! as your host, Justin Mog, gathers concerned citizens who took action this week to get an insider’s perspective on the petrochemical industry which is posing such a threat to our region. Despite failing economics and environmental health hazards, the petrochemical industry is persistent in its attempts to develop in the Ohio River Valley. One way we have seen this unfold is through the holding of the Northeast Petrochemical Conference and Exhibition, entitled "Drive Development - Transform Technologies - Increase Sustainability." The conference went online this year July 16th and 17th. Though this prevented People Over Petro activists from implementing their planned action outside the Pittsburgh convention center, it opened up the possibility for them to get inside the conference! Today’s show features three of those who attended: Alice Melendez, from Extinction Rebellion Kentucky (http://xrebelky.org), and two folks from the Pittsburgh area, Stephanie Ulmer, and Clifford Lau, who lives just south of the Beaver Co. cracker plant and teaches chemistry & environmental science.

One of the People Over Petro Coalition steering committee members was recently published, to give a sense of the level of government capture by the industry and the potential for changing winds. https://triblive.com/opinion/john-eisenfeld-we-need-a-government-that-listens-to-the-people/
