On this week’s Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, continues a series of interviews with Kentuckians who have served abroad in the U.S. Peace Corps. Jessica Byassee, who is now from Lexington and originally from Clinton, Ky (Hickman County), served in Tanzania from 2010-2013. She served as an environment volunteer in a village and then extended a third year as a health volunteer with RTI International on a malaria research project. Jessica volunteered as a mid-career professional, starting as a 30 year old despite her family originally trying to talk her out of it. In the end, she was so glad that she ended up doing it as it was a life-changing experience.

Jessica encourages all RPCVs interested in short-term, technical assignments abroad to look into the USAID Farmer to Farmer program. https://farmer-to-farmer.org/

To continue making impactful intercultural experiences state-side, Kentucky RPCVs can volunteer with the Kentucky Refugee Ministry offices in Lexington and Louisville. https://kyrm.org/

As always, our feature is followed by your community action calendar for the week, so get your calendars out and get ready to take action for sustainability NOW!
