All Aboard!! This week on Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, sits down for a long train ride with David Coyte, President of the Coalition for the Advancement of Regional Transportation (CART), to discuss the long-awaited return of passenger rail service to Louisville! A new Amtrak expansion plan was recently revealed which put rail service to Louisville back on the national planning board. Choo-choo!!

According to the Courier-Journal, “If federal funding — such as through President Joe Biden's $2 trillion infrastructure and jobs plan — gets approved, then Amtrak trains could return to the Derby City, according to a new map the national railroad corporation unveiled March 31st. Amtrak's announcement coincided with Biden unveiling his ambitious American Jobs Plan. The "Amtrak Connects US" plan envisions up to 30 or more potential new rail routes and up to 160 more communities served around the country by 2035, with Louisville among the cities that would be a part of the new service. In terms of where the new routes would go, Amtrak's map links Louisville to Indianapolis, which would also have service to Chicago.”
