On this week’s program, your host, Justin Mog, learns about young people of color getting engaged in sustainability and environmental careers, in conversation with Catherine Gomez. Cathy is currently serving as a Community Engagement Advisor for Bellarmine University, through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Cathy is a 23-year-old Louisville native who graduated from Bellarmine with a degree in Environmental Science. She is passionate about sharing her experiences as a woman and as a person of color navigating and working within the environmental field. We discuss how she came to this work and what it was like to switch to a plant-based diet in a family of Mexican immigrants. We also take a dive into the injustices in our food system and the resulting food apartheid right here in Louisville. We also talk about her experiences as an AmeriCorps volunteer, both in DC and here at home.
