Is Jesus the only way to God? Let's talk about that today.

Hi, I'm Mike Henry Sr. with Follower of One. Thanks for joining me on the Follower of One Podcast.

Today, we want to discuss a passage,  John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father, but through me.'" And that's Jesus speaking.

And we're talking in John 14:6, and that's from the New American Standard Bible. Jesus very boldly claims that He is the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Him.

What difference does that make in our daily life? Many of the people who criticize Christianity are critical because of our assertion that we have the only way to God. But Jesus is the perfect way to God. It's an interesting switch of perspectives.  Many of our contemporary friends who don't follow Jesus think that all roads lead to God; that they can all get to God through any path they choose. But what God has said very clearly in scripture is in Romans 3:23, for example, it says that "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."

None of us can make it to God on our own, creating our own path. And that's why Jesus had to die. I don't understand it, but I believe that if there was any other way for us to get to heaven, Jesus wouldn't have been killed. Jesus wouldn't have had to suffer death on the cross and the separation from God that He experienced. I just don't understand how it could work any other way.

But we all get to choose. We all get to choose whether or not we want to follow Jesus. But Jesus tries to be very clear and the consequences of not following Him. No one comes to the Father but through Me.

I think it's also interesting that this exchange comes about immediately after Jesus tells Peter that he will deny him three times. No one comes to the Father, but through Jesus means that it's our following Him, that credits us with his salvation. His salvation comes to us. It was his, he originated it. He is the way the truth and the life.

How does this matter to us in the workplace today?  Let's go to work and remember that we steward the proper way to heaven; the only way to God. We steward that relationship.  Our relationship with Jesus Christ is the only opportunity many of our friends will experience when it comes to how to live for eternity. They will only see us and they will see everything else that is some other plan, some other strategy.

So today I want to follow Jesus in such a way that others might see him. I begin by praying. In fact, I want to do all five of the daily activities that we talk about in Follower of One. I want to pray for people, appreciate them. I need to know what I believe and why I believe it, which is why we talked through this devotional.

And I want to serve others. And then if I get an opportunity to speak, I talk about the decisions I made. I don't tell them what they have to do. Thank you for being a follower of one. Thank you for being a marketplace minister, your life following Jesus will make a difference in the lives of others.

Let's remember that no one comes to the Father but through Jesus. As we follow him, we demonstrate this truth. And if you have a challenge with this, I want to encourage you to study some more and to pray and to ask God for wisdom and direction. You're also welcome to reach out to me. I'm not a theologian.

I'm simply someone who follows Jesus, but I can read what I read and I see the truth in this passage.  Jesus death on the cross is our one way to the Father.

Thanks so much for being a marketplace minister, and thanks for making a difference with your faith. If you get a chance, pray for the coworkers around you today, and the people that you will interact with today and let God put you to work in the world. Thanks very much.
