I had a great conversation with Filipe Faria back in February. Filipe is a FLY listener who decided he wanted to be on the show, and I am so glad he did.

Filipe has had a love and curiosity for Africa since he was a young teenager, and was determined to spend some time there in his adult life. Eventually, this dream came true. Having been a pilot, he was able to work for Doctors Without Borders in the Congo in 2000-2001. Within a few months, Filipe was taken hostage by a group of child soldiers. In 2020, he is finally in a place where he can speak openly about it.

Filipe also tells us about his return to Africa in 2009 when he went to Le Festival au Desert, a massive three day music festival outside of Timbuktu in Mali. It was an adventure to get there, and an adventure to get out of there.

From there, we go to his experience in Peru, doing ayahuasca in a village in the Amazon..... stories are not hard to come by when talking to Filipe!

FLY airs every Sunday at 1pm EST on CIUT 89.5FM and www.ciut.fm. Complete collection can be found on https://soundcloud.com/fly-melissa-rodway/tracks
