What is it like to have a Mom who is a fly fishing angler? My son Ian is not a fly fisherman, he’s a musician, a golfer and an absolute IT whiz and he’s been by my side for 31 years. After a long road from addiction to recovery, I was looking for a new focus in my life. Out of the blue one day, Ian said to me “You should learn how to fly fish”. I had to stop and think, where did that idea come from? Of course, I love fishing, but hadn’t fished in many years. I had never even thought of fly fishing as something I could learn. I took Ian’s idea and ran with it. That’s how my journey began. Ian, my dear family, and friends, were always there to listen to me talk about knots, flies, rods, waders, and that stuff we find so enthralling. Ian encouraged me every step of the way. We all have that person or persons in our lives that pushes us and encourages us, no matter how much we get on their nerves. They are happy for us to start new journeys, and excited for us when we succeed. That’s what I have loved the most about my fly fishing journey, is hearing everyone’s story on how they got started, and why this sport is important to them. For me, fly fishing has changed my life. Thank you Ian, for the gift of a lifetime. – Sylvia Huron Guest: Ian Huron This is Fly Girl Fish episode 012, first aired on 11/28/2019.
