American culture treats age as a curse and the elderly as expired goods. I've watched older folks with dread. I often fear the impending years when I could receive the world's judgment of "too old" to contribute, matter, or live with quality.
Our Creator reserves the right to judge our worth or purposefulness at any age, however. History abounds with valid exceptions to the errant standards of American agism. Consider the impact made upon eternity by elderly giants in literature, science, and Judeo-Christian faith leadership. Abraham and Sarah parented the first child of the Jewish line in their nineties. Moses had aged past eighty when he led Israel through the desert. And the Lord blessed Anna to speak prophecy over the infant Messiah during her service as an ancient widow in the Temple.
We are never too old for a new beginning! Who says getting older has to be boring? Tammy Whitehurst talks about how we can age funny, fearlessly, and full of faith.
