Welcome to Flex Your Heart Radio! This podcast is about body, fat and gender positivity, fitness, feminism, recovery, risk, and crushing it at life.    In this episode I talk to Marie Chia of S+M Vegan Chefs! Marie is a vegan chef and queer hapa who was born in Singapore and raised in France.  She spends her time navigating the lack of representation of east Asians and POC in often oppressive, straight-white-male dominated environments, reconciling the will to cultivate her heritage with her participation in a whitewashed vegan scene,  and teaching herself to stay alert after a lifetime of trying to make her anger disappear. She and her partner founded their business in Oakland in late 2013, and currently live and work in LA.   In this episode we talk about: - the ways in which veganism can be toxic or exclusive.  - How Marie's identity as a woman recovering from eating disorders and depression and person of Chinese descent inform her value in working to rid the scene of ableism, fatphobia and myths that can encourage orthorexia (and other EDs). - How transitioning to veganism and learning how to cook are tied to her story of recovery, and completely changed )and possibly saved) her life.   And so much more!    A very special thank you to our 10$ level and up Patreon Patrons: Leslie Bennett, Meg Tracy, The Shiners, Jen, Mickey Boille, Julia Gibson, Jordan Faulds, Andi Olsen, Aja Vines, Bianca Phillips, Sky Chari and Kelly Knight!
