After having emotional breakdowns from watching this tear-jerker movie, we get into the fashions of these strong southern belles! Costume designer Julie Weiss (Frida, American Beauty) put this deliciously talented crew of women (Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, and Olympia Dukakis) in big shoulder pads, cat-eye glasses, fur coats and overalls, and church hats galore! We discuss the alleged Mob Wife trend and thee armadillo cake; Blaire celebrates Ouiser’s (Shirley’s) eccentric Southern Lady glam, and Marie attempts to make Truvee’s (Dolly’s) cuppa cuppa cuppa cake (1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, and 1 fruit cocktail with the syrup).
