I have a reoccurring dream that I'm onstage and I forget my comedy act. I always wake up before I figure out what to do. Luckily that's never happened because I work hard at remembering it . . . especially new jokes. I do a lot of jokes – 3 or 4 a minute, and so when I add in a new one in, it's hard. I’m in a rhythm of saying the ones I've done forever, you know joke, joke, joke. And then I hit the new one and I don't want to have to break the rhythm to remember it.
This week's theme is memory techniques, and one memory technique I use that works really well is to say the new joke out loud before I go to bed and then sleep on it. I don't know what happens in your brain when you sleep, maybe the joke rolls around in my head or something, but it really works. I have a friend who was researching the connection between sleep and memory at her university – so science is looking into this, but all I know is that it works. Try it the next time you have to remember something. Say it out loud, several times before you go to bed.
ACTION: Of course you could start small and practice this technique by remembering my website . . . www.TheWorkLady.com ok, that was a shameless plug.
That's it for today. Take care and enjoy your journey.
