Dr. Tabia Pope, nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Instructor at the University of the District of Columbia and the Founding Chair and CEO of Head to Speech, Inc. joins Glenn on the Field to discuss how concussions affect an athlete’s cognitive functions and speech abilities, the link between brain health and speech patterns, the differences between concussions and traumatic brain injuries, and the rehabilitation processes involved in speech therapy to help athletes recover from the aftermath of concussions.  Dr. Pope addresses the importance of early intervention, the role teletherapy plays in speech, language, and cognitive therapy with athletes and how tailored speech therapies mitigate long-term consequences on both brain health and communication skills.  Dr. Pope also shares the warning signs of concussions and post-concussion syndromes, prevention methods and brain exercises, and why she’s on a mission to educate elite athletes on concussion management protocols that provide support and awareness throughout their athletic journey.
